SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3RD, 2018 – 9:00AM – 3:00PM.
Venue – Hillbrook Anglican School – SE QLD
Presenter – Andrew Brookes
Andrew Brookes is one of the most well known researchers into the prevention of fatalities in the outdoors. He is presenting his latest findings at the upcoming 8th International Outdoor Education Research Conference to be held at USC on the 19th – 23rd November. The OEAQ has been able to secure Andrew for a one day workshop looking at the prevention of fatalities in the outdoors.
If your PD budget is running low, this is the one event you cannot miss!!!
Andrew’s work has been described as “the most extensive review of OE fatalities internationally and has shown that fatal incident prevention is feasible, but requires specific knowledge and particular action. It does not necessarily follow from normal safety practices or good programming.”
Through a mixture of discussions, brief participant presentations, and expert presentations this day workshop would provide an introduction to developing case-based fatality prevention expertise. We will look at the nature of case-based prevention knowledge; the scope of fatal incident cases, and learning to recognise potentially fatal circumstances.
There will be some necessary pre-reading to this workshop, 3 or 4 incidents that will be provided to you. Also please come prepared to join in the discussion, this day is not one to sit back, but to open up and be reflective about our current practice.
Morning tea and lunch provided – Please email [email protected] with any dietary requirements
Registration will close on October 23rd at 6:00pm to allow pre-reading material to be distributed.
