OEA Announces Outdoor Education Program Award

New OEA Award honours inspirational Outdoor Ed Programs

Outdoor Education Australia (OEA) in conjunction with its Foundation Partner, Wilderness Equipment, has announced at NOEC 2018 an inaugural Australian Outdoor Education Program of the year Award.

The award will recognise a group, class, school or organisation doing innovative and transformative work in Outdoor Education and would equate to $3000 in value.

The prize will be $3000 worth of outdoor equipment from Wilderness Equipment.

In launching the award, Chairperson for OEA, Mr Peter McKenna, said the organisation wanted to uncover and shine a light on inspiring, transformational and impactful Outdoor Education programs across Australia.

“We look forward to spotlighting all finalists and the valuable outcomes they achieve,” he added.

OE Program Award Criteria and Process

The inaugural award will be presented at the 2020 National Outdoor Education Conference to be hosted in New South Wales.

The winner will be selected by the OEA Executive consisting of two representatives from each state/territory and a Wilderness Equipment representative.

Schools or Educators will be able to self-nominate to their state or territory organisation.

Each state/territory Outdoor Education organisation will assess their applications and submit 1 nomination for the OEA Program Award.

State / Territory Outdoor Education organisations are invited to submit state nominees to Outdoor Education Australia by 30 December in the year preceding the National Outdoor Education Conference. As such, the first nomination deadline will be 30 December 2019.

Nominators will need to provide a 500-750 word submission addressing 4 areas:

  • What does the program seek to achieve?
  • Describe the program participants.
  • Outline the program.
  • Provide evidence of the program’s success.

Successful nominees will be asked to provide a 3 minute synopsis of their application on the first day of the 2020 National Outdoor Education Conference and be promoted via OEA digital channels.

The OEA Program Award will be announced at the NOEC conference dinner in 2020.
